7 Crochet Hooded Scarf Pattern

 Well I have finally picked up the crochet hook again. 

Remember my learn to crochet journey that I started just last winter? 

I'm finding that I still love it and I am even teaching a few Beginner Crochet classes for our rec department this fall.  I can't wait!

We've decided as a family to do a home-made Christmas this year and this is one of the gifts that will be going to a special little girl.  Isaiah had fun modelling it for me though ;) 

I made it to fit a four year old but you could easily increase the size of the hood and lengthen the scarf to make it larger.

I created the striped look by using three different coloured balls of yarn.  I simply alternated the yarn every few rows.  Each colour on the hood is three rows of double crochet, then the scarf went six rows of double crochet and finally eight rows of double crochet.

You can find more detailed patterns for purchase all over the web.  I often start with a pattern then modify it and simplify it to suit my needs.

I love that this has pockets.  It's an all-in-one hood, scarf and mittens.  No worries that you are going to loose a piece to the set!  Yippie!

Here is my pattern {sized for a four year old}.

dc - double crochet

st - stitch

sc- single crochet

ch - chain

The hood

R1:  chain 24

R2:  dc 24, chain 1

R3:  dc 24 down the other side of the chain, ch 1, turn

R4-6:  dc 48, ch 1, turn

R7:  dc 22, two dc into the next four stitches, dc 22, ch 1, turn

R8-21:  dc 52, ch 1, turn

The scarf

You will do these next rounds twice, once on either side of the hood.

Attach yarn to front, bottom corner of hood. Ch 1.

R22-72:  dc 20, ch 1, turn

Repeat on the other side of the hood.

Fold the bottom eight stitches at the end of the scarf up then single crochet around your entire project twice.

 This pattern would be pretty cute for boys too.

 Maybe with grey yarn and little black sculls on the pockets???
