Soft Sword Tutorial

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

Hey y'all!

I have another quick tutorial for you!

It's all part of our
One For The Boys ~ Holiday Edition
series of posts.

IMG_4531My guys love fighting.
Like, all the time!

So why not make them some soft swords to spar with?
Better than using wii remotes or plastic dollar store light sabres I say!

These would be great for a pirate/star wars birthday party too.
Make one for each party guest and give them out as party favors!

IMG_4515 Step 1.  Cut out your fabric.  The sword body is 21" x 7.5" and the hilt 7.5" x 7.5".  Now personalize the sword with some freezer paper stencilled lettering.  I used my cricut to cut out "engarde" and "touche".  Iron the freezer paper onto the sword body.

Step 2.  Use fabric paint to color in the stencil.

Here are my swords all painted.

IMG_4523 Step 3.  Allow the paint to dry and peel off the freezer paper.

IMG_4525 Step 4.  Sew the sword hilt {black fabric} to the sword body.  Use 1/4" seam allowance throughout.

IMG_4527 Step 5.  Sew the sides of the sword together.  Sew a curve at the end of the sword and cut off excess fabric.

IMG_4529  Step 6.  Invert the sword and iron.  Fill with stuffing and sew the end closed.

IMG_4532 The red and green swords are going into the boys stockings.

The rest of them?
All part of my first Christmas Craft Fair that I am attending as a vendor!

What have you been creating for your little guy?
