Back to school often means back to a routine, back to a regularly scheduled program and back to basics. With the recent school strike our “back to school” was somewhat delayed this year. The first few weeks of September were spent at “Momma School” where I attempted to use some of my preschool and recreation teaching techniques on our twin six year olds. Some days we were successful and some days were… well… a disaster. What worked on the days that went well was pairing our lesson plans with a fun snack and a bit of educational programming on Netflix.
The boys and I made alphabet trail mix using our favorite alphabet pretzels from Superstore. We included cheerios, raisins and gold fish crackers in the mix for a fun snack that could also be used during our momma school. We sat down to one of my favorite educational shows, Super Why. As we watched I had the boys pick out the letter pretzel that matched the letters on the show and made a fun “learning game” out of eating our simple snack. I am so thankful for our teachers and their ability to make education fun. As I learned during “Momma School” teaching six year olds is much harder than it looks!
