There’s no denying that store-bought granola bars are a convenient snack. Store shelves are packed with options too, in flavor and brand.

They aren’t always so healthy though. The amount of sugar and trans-fats they contain make pre-packaged granola bars less than ideal.

In the last few months, I have been experimenting with all kinds of healthy snack recipes, as we try to reduce the amount of processed foods that we eat. This homemade granola bar recipe is one of our family favorites so far.

They are super simple to make. The best part? You can swap out many of the ingredients for different flavour combinations. Add this to your must-bake list!

Tips & Tricks:

  • Use rolled oats, quick oats, or a combination of both, in this recipe. Each one will create a slightly different texture in the finished product.
  • A silicone or rubber spatula works well for pressing the granola bar mixture evenly into your baking pan. Spray it with a little cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  • Cut your bars while they are still slightly warm.
  • When storing, wrap individual bars in parchment paper or plastic wrap. They can then be stacked in your storage container.

Ingredients:

  • 5 1/2 cups oats
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 tsp cinnamon

This recipe makes a lot of granola bars!  I love that they last longer than a day or two and are perfect for school lunches.  I store them in an air tight container in the cupboard for up to two weeks.

How big is the baking sheet? 9×13?

Yes, 9×13 :)

What temperature do you bake at?

Oh edited to add – 350 degrees. Thanks! xo

How will it turns out when I don’t use baking sheet? Will it burnt?

Can you dry/dehydrate them to last longer?

My granola burned on the bottom and I only cooked it for 14 mins. I used a large cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. 275 is too hot for a metal pan.

I made this but they didn’t come out as bars. They feel apart.

Simple to make and better than store bought. Made with real ingredients we are familiar with. These are a healthy basic granola bar anyone can enjoy anytime! Thank you!

If you add blueberries, would you recommend fresh or frozen, what quantity, and how would you add them to mix? Sorry for elementary questions, but I am not a cook.
Thank you.
AJ

I like granola with my yogurt. Would this recipe work if not in bars?

Does it matter what kind of oats you use?

I made it, when I first took it out of the oven they were so soft, but I let it cool and it was the perfect consistency, but how do you
make the bars? Because I made a mess and end it up just breaking it with my hands, do you do it when it’s soft after you just take it out of oven?

Hi I’m going to chime in , do you cut them into bars before baking or immediately after baking ?
Thanks

30 minutes at 375???? I should have known better. Hi there, smoke alarm. Completely ruined.

cook them for 15 minutes max, and maybe reduce temp to 350. Unless you like eating charcoal (exaggerated but you get it).

The recipe and the write up say two different temperatures. I botched one recipe baking at 375 for 30 mi items. Grrr! The second batch I baked at 350 for 25 and they were perfect. Please update the write up to reflect the actual recipe. Very misleading.

Could I add more nuts/seeds? Not sure what amount could I put in without affecting the final result

I made these and they were very dry. Although the flavor was very good. I’ll just use a granola on my yogurt.

Delicious! I’m glad that I read through the comments because it didn’t take as long to get done. They were golden brown inside of 17 min. I added some sunflower seeds, chia seeds, flax seeds and pumpkin seeds as well.
