Homemade cranberry scones are easy to make with a few simple ingredients from the grocery store. This copycat Starbucks orange cranberry scone recipe is absolutely delicious and just as good as the original!

As a self professed Starbucks addict I’ll admit that the cranberry Starbucks scones are a guilty pleasure. They pair perfectly with a glass of orange juice or my favorite caramel brulee latte or s’mores frappuccino.

These scones are flaky, sweet and decadent… just like the original, if I do say so myself! The boys were my eager taste testers as I worked on developing the flavour profile for this copycat recipe.

Orange Cranberry Scones Ingredients

The best cranberry scones:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tp salt
  • 2 tsp orange zest
  • 1/2 cup butter (cold)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup frozen cranberries
  • Icing:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp orange extract
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • Extra sugar for topping

Instructions:

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, combine dry ingredients.
  2. Add butter to the flour mixture.
  3. Mix until the butter is pea sized crumbles and resembles coarse crumbs.

4. Add wet ingredients, cream, egg and vanilla and mix until a soft dough forms.

5. Fold in cranberries.

6. Place dough onto a lightly floured surface and shape it into a flat, uniform circle with your hands.

7. Cut into six separate wedges and place them on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.

8. Brush the top of each with milk and sprinkle with white sugar.

9. Bake at 350 for 22-25 minutes or until the edges of each scone are golden brown.

10. In a small bowl combine powdered sugar, milk and orange extract.

11. Drizzle the icing mixture over top of the scones.

While this Starbucks copycat recipe is pretty perfect, it can also be made with a variety of different ingredients.

Substitutions:

  • Fresh cranberries can be used instead of frozen.
  • Try using different fresh fruit!
  • Dried cranberries could be used but will not yield the same results.
  • Add lemon zest to create lemon cranberry scones

Notes:

  • Store in an airtight container or a freezer bag for up to 5 days.
  • These are great made ahead and frozen for later.
